About This Exhibit

NoCo ARTS invites artists to submit work for Beyond Boundaries, an exhibition celebrating the limitless possibilities of abstract art. This exhibition explores the power of color, form, texture, movement, and emotion—encouraging artists to push past convention and venture into new creative territory.

Featured within the exhibition will be a special presentation of work by acclaimed local abstract artist Bev Biser, whose expressive and dynamic approach to abstraction has inspired designers and collectors around the world.

Whether your work is intuitive, geometric, expressive, minimalist, experimental, or a blend of realism, Beyond Boundaries welcomes diverse interpretations of abstraction. We invite artists to challenge traditional definitions, explore personal narratives, and create works that transcend the expected.

EXHIBITION THEME

Abstract art has the unique ability to communicate beyond words, inviting viewers to engage through emotion, memory, and imagination. Beyond Boundaries seeks artwork that embraces experimentation, innovation, and the freedom of artistic expression.

Artists are encouraged to submit work that:

  • Explores abstraction in traditional or contemporary forms
  • Pushes creative or conceptual limits
  • Investigates color, texture, pattern, gesture, or form
  • Expresses emotion, movement, or personal experience through nonrepresentational or loosely representational imagery

Submission Guidelines

  • Artists may submit up to 6 pieces for consideration.
  • All work must be original and completed within the last 3 years.
  • All work must not have been previously exhibited at NoCo ARTS.
  • Artwork must be ready to exhibit with appropriate hanging hardware or display mechanisms.
  • Submitted images should accurately represent the finished artwork.

Selection Criteria

This is a curated exhibition. The selection of the artists and their works to be exhibited will be based on the following criteria:

  • Originality and creative interpretation of theme
  • Craftsmanship and technical execution
  • Composition and visual impact
  • Artistic voice and authenticity
  • Marketability
  • Professional presentation suitable for gallery display

Acceptance Notification: July 15, 2026

Exhibition Dates: August 05, 2026 through September 27, 2026

Artist Reception Date: August 08, 2026

Participation Fee If selected, each artist will be required to pay a $50 Participation Fee. This fee is waived for NoCo ARTS Members.

'Rootin' Tootin' Newton' T-Shirt Design

About This Exhibit

NoCo ARTS & 2 Pink Magnolias are teaming together to offer locals and visitors creative Newton-themed products that we will have available for purchase in our businesses.

We are putting out a CALL for ART, asking our creative community to help us create the design for a 'Rootin' Tootin' Newton' t-shirt and other merchandise.

The Artist whose design work is selected will not only see their art printed on t-shirts, they will also receive $200 cash, a t-shirt, and $100 in Downtown Newton Dollars, which can be redeemed at many Downtown Newton businesses. In addition, the Artist's work will be featured on both the NoCo ARTS and 2 Pink Magnolias websites, social media platforms, and email campaigns.

This is a great opportunity to support your local Downtown Newton businesses, gain exposure, and share your love for this great town!

Eligibility and Media

ELIGIBILITY

  • Open to anyone who has a creative idea and wants to share it.
  • No age limits.
  • Must be a US Resident.


MEDIA

  • This Call for Art is open for all visual art mediums including, but not limited to: painting, digital art, drawing, photographic processes, sculpture, and printmaking.
  • AI-generated artwork will NOT be accepted.

Genres Encouraged

DESIGN CRITERIA

  • Artwork MUST include the phrase 'Rootin' Tootin' Newton' in the completed design.
  • Artwork may incorporate an element(s) reflective of the City of Newton such as landmarks, history, etc.
  • Artwork may incorporate the Artist's name/signtature/logo, social media handle and/or website.
  • Artwork must NOT include any licensed imagery/characters/logos such as Disney, sports teams, companies, etc.
  • Artwork must NOT include any political or controversial subject matter.
  • Artwork must NOT include any imagery or language that would be deemed offensive, vulgar, or inappropriate.

Submission Guidelines

  • ARTWORK DIMENSIONS: 11 inches by 14 inches | 300 dpi resolution (3300px by 4200px)
  • Images of completed artwork design must be submitted in digital form. Original paintings and hardcopies of photos will not be considered.
  • Please ensure that text and design details (such as lines) are not too thin. Very thin lines will not show up or will appear faint in the printed design.

Selection Criteria

  • All completed designs must be submitted no later than July 18, 2026.
  • A selection committee will review all entries and will make a decision based on creativity and execution of design criteria.
  • Artists will be notified of the selection results by July 25, 2026 via email.
