Coil Basketry: Modern Fiber Vessels
Ready to try your hand at a timeless, tactile craft? Join artist Andy Chrem for a cozy and creative introduction to modern coil basketry!
In this beginner-friendly 2-hour class, you will learn how to transform a simple filler cord and colorful yarn into a stunning, contemporary fiber vessel. Using traditional stitching methods with
a fresh twist, you’ll master the rhythm of coiling and color-blending. While baskets take time to build, you will leave with a gorgeous semi-finished piece in hand, along with all the materials, tools, and knowledge you need to finish it up and keep coiling at home!
What You’ll Learn:
• Starting the Core: How to anchor your yarn around the filler cord and establish a strong,
clean base for your basket.
• The Stitching Technique: How to master the wrap-and-stitch motion that builds height
and structural integrity.
• Adding Color & Patterns: How to cleanly switch yarns, introduce new colors, and
create stripes or unique visual designs as you go.
• Shaping & Finishing: How to gently flare or shape your walls, taper your ends securely,
and the exact steps to complete your vessel at your own pace.
All tools, specialized cord, and a colorful assortment of yarns are provided. Just bring your creativity and get ready to start a wonderfully addictive new craft!
